This is an initiative within the activity “Europa Innova” and includes several of the most important Andalusian and Portuguese companies within the field of eco-innovation, among which Neuron Bio was selected.
Javier Velasco, CEO of Neuron Bio, emphasised the significance of this award and stressed the special sense of responsibility that the company feels towards environmental matters, without neglecting its commitment to innovation, of which Microbioil represents one of the best examples.
The event was opened by Ms. Vera Borracho, the representative of EBN, and by Mr. Álvaro Simón, head of BIC Euronova, and was attended by various representatives of local, regional and European institutions, who were present to discuss the importance of eco-innovation in Andalusia and various activities to support the creation and consolidation of companies in this sector.
From the ten selected companies, the technologies presented by Neuron Bio, Bioazul and Airzone were credited as being the most interesting in terms of eco-innovation amongst those presented at the event in Málaga.
Neuron Bio, together with the other participants at the event, passed a prior selection process and are thus now members of the Club of the Top 100 Businesses in Eco-Innovation, which brings together the top 100 most promising ecologic innovation companies with the best performance in the EU, selected through eight trans-regional events in the most environmental innovative regions with regard to the environment. Club members share the privilege of being part of a European network of excellence in eco-innovation and will also have access to a wide range of high-value-added services.

Press release.Neuron Bio sets up a pilot plant for large-scale bioprocessing research.

• The new infrastructure will allow the production of batch demonstration packs of bioplastics, biofuels and food ingredients.
• The plant is located provisionally in the Ogíjares industrial park (Polígono Tecnológico de Ogíjares) until the new Neuron Bio building is ready.

Neuron Bio has commissioned a fermentation pilot plant, which will allow large scale production of yeast, bacteria and microalgae as part of its own R&D production as well as bioprocess development for other companies.
The total investment in the plant amounts to 0.5 million euros and will require the employment of three new members of new staff. The plant has been installed provisionally in the Ogíjares industrial park (Polígono Tecnológico de Ogíjares), until the construction of the new Neuron Bio building in the Granada Health-Sciences Technology Park is finished.
The plant allows the culture of microorganisms in volumes of over 400 l per batch and also provides for the subsequent recovery and purification of the bioproducts.
Thanks to this acquisition Neuron has incorporated into its production process a phase that was done externally until now, permitting the optimization and improvement of its research and production processes, as well as a significant saving in rental costs. Thus Neuron Bio will expand its bioprocess-development-service portfolio and will offer advanced scale-up services to agro-food, chemical, pharmaceutical and bio-fuel companies.
